1st Impressions: Ruby Kisses Luxe Colour Customizable Shadow Palettes

Last week my favorite local beauty supply store mentioned on Instagram that they had the newest customizable shadow palette from Ruby Kisses. Shortly thereafter a few mentioned seeing them so I was determined to make a trip this weekend to get a look myself.  Ruby Kisses is one of those brands that is often overlooked. It's most often found in smaller locally owned beauty supply stores (BSS). Last year there was much talk about their HD Set n' Forget Setting Powder that is supposed to be similar to the Ben Nye Banana Powder. They also have a concealer, Face Creator, that has been compared to MAC Studio Finish Concealer.

So Saturday, I stopped by and look what I found.  The Ruby Kisses Luxe Colour costumizable palette system.  We are not new to the concept of costumizable shadow systems-MAC, Urban Decay, Coastal Scents, and Mary Kay, are just a few of the brands that have there own systems.  Well now enters Ruby Kisses and at these prices, this is excellent especially for the beginner make-up maven or for those wanting to step outside their comfort zone and try newer fashion colors. At my BSS, the empty palettes run for $2.99 each and the individual shadows are $1.00 each.  There are currently 34 shades in the collection. Each shadow comes with 2.5 g / 0.08 oz US of product (compared to MAC single shadows-1.5 g / 0.05 US oz-$15 USD).  Each palette holds 4 shadows and has a large mirror. Unlike some of the other systems, neither the palette nor the shadows are magnetized, they simple snap in and out of the palettes.

Now on to the product, they clam be to 24hr long lasting colors. Also to be water and crease resistant.  So I will be paying close attention to these claims while wearing them over the next several days.  I picked up 8 of the 34 shadows. Ruby Kisses also has their shadow primer with this collection for for my swatches, as I didn't buy the Ruby Kisses primer, I'm showing you both with ad without a primer. I used Sephora Perfecting Eye Primer.  In each photo, left swatch is without primer and the right swatch is with the primer.

Of the 8 shades I purchased, from my experience while swatching the formulation was good, the feel was velvety, and not chalky, but I would still put the overall quality of MAC on top. But again for $1.00, they are definitely worth a look and a try. These are great shadows to start with. I hope to see more matte shades introduced. I will certainly be looking at some of the other Ruby Kisses products. I already have their Set n' Forget Setting Powder in banana and their Face Creator concealer.

Ruby Kisses is one of those brands that the main stream often overlook. It's really by word-of-mouth that gives them any attention.  So the next time you find yourself in one of those smaller beauty supply stores, stop and take a look.  I have found some of my favorite cosmetic products, including nail polishes in these little hidden gems.  What more information about Ruby Kisses, click HERE for their website.

UPDATE: My eye look for today was made up of these Ruby Kisses shadows. I used the same primer as I mentioned above, Sephora Perfecting Eye Primer. It has been 12 hours and my shadows are still going strong. No fallout during application; no creasing throughout the day; and the colors are still going strong even after 12 hours. So my overall opinion is if you can find them, give them a try.  Again, for $1 a shadow, you won't be disappointed.

Grace, Peace, & Blessings.
