About Me & FAQs

Good Day, My name is Lois and this is my personal blog. It started out as a Nails and Nail Care blog but quickly grew to include some of my other hobbies, make-up, hair and skin care. As I started to see changes in my maturing skin, I started really seeking products to help fight the signs of aging.  This is a battle I am going to fight with all I have.

My subjects include but are not limited to skin care especially for the maturing persons, nails & nail care, ethnic hair care, and make-up.

I don’t claim to be an authority or an expert, but For Me, They work...maybe they will work for you also.

With regards to nails and nail care, as a child, I was a nail biter but was able to stop.  How?  My childhood BFF and I made a bet to see who could grow their nails the longest.  I won!  I am not big on nail art but love a well manicure hand.  I hope to share my hobby with others.  We can all learn from each other.

Two things to remember, “You paint a house; You polish your nails” and “Your nails are jewels, not tools”.  These are two sayings a long-time friend and salon owner use to say all the time.

What is your polish regimen?

By using this regimen, my polish normally lasts at least two weeks only with some tip wear.
  1. Wipe down nails with alcohol to remove all traces of oil from my nail beds.
  2. Treatment: I normally use one of two treatments-Nail Tek Xtra+ or Nail Life Nail Revitalizer (Regular Formula).
  3. Hardener/Thickener: I use Gelous Advanced Nail Gel Coat (Sally Beauty).
  4. Adhesive Base Coat: While many talk of Orly Bonder, I use Nail Life Gripper Adhesive Base Coat.
  5. Nail Polish: 2-3 coats depending on desired look.  Make certain to wrap tips.
  6. Top Coat: Seche Vite’ Fast Drying Top Coat.
  7. If I have experienced shrinkage with a certain polish and Seche Vite’, I will first apply another brand of Top Coat (normally OPI Top Coat) then Seche Vite’.
I realize that this may seem like an extensive process but this has worked for me and again, my manicure lasts at least 2 weeks with only some minor tip wear.  I don’t claim to be a nail professional but over the years I have found that these products have been successful for me.

What do you use to moisturize your cuticles?

I have developed my own cuticle oil mixture.  I use it to moisturize my nails and cuticles 2-3 times a day (including the undersides of my nails).  I keep a bottle on my nightstand so I have it close at hand.  First thing each morning, I moisturize before putting my hands in any water.  My own theory: Nails are porous like sponges and if they fill up on water, they can’t absorb the benefits of the oil.  I try to, at least once during the day,  moisturize again. And once before bed, I moisturize again.  Along with my cuticle oil mixture, I moisturize with a hand cream. My holy grail hand creams are Gold Bond Ultimate Softening Skin Therapy Lotion and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Cream (solid).

Do I take any vitamins and/or supplements?

I take a daily multivitamin (GNC Women’s Ulta Mega Active) and 5000mcg of Biotin (Spring Valley).
