REVIEW: Parnevu Product Reviews

I was recently given the opportunity to select three hair products from the Parnevu T-Tree &/or Extra Dry Products line to review.  I was familiar with the Parnevu line as I had used a couple their products many years ago.  That was long before I started my healthy hair journey. At that time, I didn't really know which products worked for my hair and which didn't.  However, now after much research, trial and error, I have gained a great deal of knowledge and I know my hair very well and I know what my hair likes and better yet, what my hair doesn't like.  So when this opportunity presented itself, I took great care to decide which three products I would try.  In the end, I selected:
  • Extra Dry Hair Mayonnaise
  • Extra Dry Salon Shampoo
  • Extra Dry Oil Replenisher
First, allow me to describe my hair type:
(However this is not meant to limit the audience for the Parnevu Product line.) I am Africian American with normal to medium, shoulder length hair. If I had to classify my natural hair type and curl pattern, I would say it's 4A-B. However, my hair is chemically straightened and colored. Therefore, it can be dry and needs a lot of moisture.
Needless to say, as a product junkie, I was excited to receive and try these products.  The first product I reached for was the Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise.  First impressions: light unobtrusive scent, and a thick consistency (that I appreciate in a hair mayonnaise).
The Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise contains many of the ingredients I look for in a conditioner: Olive Oil, Glycerin, Egg Protein, Cholesterol, Rosemary, & Vitamin E. I have been known to mix my own deep conditioner adding many of these ingredients.

Throughout the almost three years that I have been on my healthy hair journey, one part of my hair regimen that my hair reacts best to is a Pre-Poo with a hair mayonnaise (applying conditioner to dry hair and sit under heat for 30-45 minutes).  So with the exception of adding the Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise, I proceeded with my normal regimen.  The outcome: I rinsed the hair mayonnaise out and my hair felt strengthened but not hard or course.

During another shampoo day, I used the Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise as directed on the package. Yet again, it left my hair feeling strengthened but as with any other hair mayonnaise (protein) I've used, my hair still required a moisturizing conditioner to regain its softness and to detangle.

Overall opinion of Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise: The results are very similar to other hair mayonnaise products I've used. Would I switch from my current product? I prefer the citrus scent of my current product but if my current product were not available, I would not have an issue using Parnevu Hair Mayonnaise.

The next product I decided to try was the Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo.  First impressions: pearlescent, fruity scent, but not over powering.

The Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo claims to be "pH-balanced and specially formulated to cleanse your hair and scalp of oil buildup without stripping. The unique formula uses gentle cleansing agents derived from coconut oils and palm nuts to effectively remove grease from the hair and scalp. Natural moisturizers penetrate the hair to replace and lock in vital moisture lost due to chemical damage and everyday styling, leaving hair soft and manageable."

I realize that many people are on a sulfate-free kick. However, I am willing to use whatever products my hair likes. So I had no issue with trying Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo. But sadly, this product did not give me the results I was expecting.

Overall opinion of Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo: It's 1st claim: "removes buildup", yes, it definitely left my hair feeling cleanesed of any product buildup. 2nd claim: "leaves hair Moist, Soft, and Silky." While my hair was cleansed of any product buildup, it was also left feeling stripped and dry. I had to follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to get my hair back to its normal state.  There is no way I would have tried to detangle my hair after having used just this product. At best I would only use Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo as a clarifying shampoo. Would I replace my current product with Parnevu Extra Dry Salon Shampoo? Unfortunately, No. I did not like the overly stripped feeling it left my hair with.

Lastly, I selected to try the Parnevu Extra Dry Oil Replenisher. First impressions: thicker than expected with no noticeable scent. As part of my normal hair regimen, I moisturize and then seal my hair with an oil twice a day. I usually use a natural oil like Coconut or Olive oil. I decided to give the Parnevu Extra Dry Oil Replenisher a try because it contains Coconut and Castor Seed Oil, another favorite natural oil.
The Parnevu Extra Dry Oil Replenisher, claims to be "a creamy blend of natural oils and conditioners that strengthens and rejuvenates dry damaged hair weakened by chemicals and heat styling. Castor oil, Coconut Oil and Lanolin replenished lost to the scalp while adding Softness, Sheen and Shine to the hair." As previously stated, my first thought was this was going to be too thick and too heavy for my hair. But I gave it a try anyway.  I used it as I use my normal oils to seal my ends twice a day. I used very little because, too much would definitely weigh down my hair. As stated on the label, this product would probably would be better suited for someone with thicker, more coarse, natural, untreated hair. Surprisingly, using a very small amount, at first my hair seem to agree with the Parnevu Oil Replenisher. However, after using it for several days, twice a day, I had greater buildup than I normally would using my natural oils. Maybe if this came in a "light" version, my hair would agree with it long term.

Overall opinion of Parnevu Extra Dry Oil Replenisher:  I am not a ingredient snob but the first ingredient listed being Petrolatum does not set well me. I prefer more natural oils that can actually penetrate the hair shaft. Would I switch my current product for the Parnevu Extra Dry Oil Replenisher? This would be another No. While overall, this product did not work for my hair, I could see it working for someone with thicker, natural hair.

Overall Opinion of the opportunity to review the Parnevu products: As it had been a long time since I tried any Parnevu products, I was happy to revisit the brand and will now take another look at some of the other Parnevu products. I see a few others that look appealing and that I will be trying. Parnevu has a wide range of products that are suitable for a wide range of hair types. Since starting my healthy hair journey, I have learned to step outside of my comfort zone, and try products that previously, I would not have.

Grace, Peace, & Blessings.
